Description of route
You leave Miðgarðir along a trail east under Hnoðraholt and along the golf course inside the forest of Gardabaer in Smalaholt and run there on paths up to Smalaholtið, which gives a beautiful view of Vífilsstaðavatn and the Bláfjöllins. From there the path leads to a path in Smalaholtin east to the stables of Garðabær where you cross Vatnsendaveg and up to Sandahlídina above the stables. You reach the mela of Sandahlíðar on the Garðabæjar side above Guðmundarlund.

The route from there leads briefly on a horse path towards the new Skátaheimilin in Garðabær. Take a sharp turn at the Skátaheimil, where there is a drinking station, and head west to Vífilsstaðarvatn along a new gravel path that connects to the gravel path at the bottom of Vífilsstaðarvatn. Before going down the path, the view to the west is beautiful and on a good day there is a view of the sea and Snæfellsjökull.

When you come down to Vífilsstaðarvatn from the top of the hill, continue straight along Vífilsstaðarvatn to the lower parking lot at the outlet of Hraunslæk (Vífilsstaðarlækinn), cross the footbridge and turn left to the upper parking lot and over the Flóttamannalíðir and on to Vífilsstaðir. Pass Vífilsstaðir on the car park and turn right. Then the path leads directly to Miðgarðir on a new paved walkway that is 800 m down to Miðgardðir with a good final sprint.

The track is in a process of ascent through hills and hills for the first 5.5 km with the highest point at an altitude of 150 m from Miðgarður. The highest point is on the hill above the new Skátaheimil. The route from there is almost all downhill and there is a sharp and long descent down the new path to Lake Vífilsstaður. The total elevation of the course is about 200 m.

The surface of the track is not paved, but compacted dirt paths like in most places in Heidmörk, partly horse paths and good gravel paths. For keen runners, you can give in after the climb ends at 5.5 km, which is on the hill above the Skátaheimilð in Heidmörk.

The promoter asks the participants not to leave anything such as packaging and other items in the track. You can get rid of it at the drinking station at the Scout Home or at the target area.
